Petrie drew it in 1819 in graphite, ink and watercolour on a sheet of about 18 × 23 cm, washing the stone in cool greys and the roofs in soft yellow. This work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland.

About the Artist

George Petrie (1790–1866), born in Dublin, was a landscape painter and antiquarian who travelled Ireland recording its ruins, round towers and castles.
