Leaving the water blank lets the spray and light read through. It is a small sheet, about 21 × 28 cm, in soft sepia and grey. This work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland.

About the Artist

Christopher Machell (1747–1827) was a draughtsman who recorded the Irish countryside in the late eighteenth century, from the Wicklow glens to the Dublin demesnes and the north. His wash drawings are among the National Gallery of Ireland's best records of how those places looked.

Sizes & Format

30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18″

40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24″

Unframed

Print Details

Archival matte paper, 250gsm (110lb), acid-free and FSC-certified — off-white, uncoated.
