That moment you walk into a room and feel the air shift—that's what Ward painted in Dublin City Hall, and now it can live in yours.
Harmonic Balance of Warm and Cold
Ward's 1912 composition plays orange against blue in a dance of opposing forces, each colour pushing and pulling the other into perfect equilibrium. Created for Dublin City Hall's interior, this work sits at the heart of Irish civic pride and artistic confidence. Bring this balance home to your wall.
About the Artist
James Ward (1851–1924) was Dublin's quiet master of colour and form. While his peers chased fashionable movements, Ward stayed rooted in craft and observation, believing colour itself could tell a story. He spent decades creating works for Dublin's most important buildings, leaving behind a body of paintings that whisper rather than shout. Few know his name outside Ireland, but his work shaped how the city sees itself.
