Painted circa 1853, this evocative scene captures the energy and vibrancy of Dublin's main thoroughfare—now known as O'Connell Street—at a time when horse-drawn carriages, omnibuses, and pedestrians filled its wide expanse.

At the heart of the artwork stands the iconic Nelson's Pillar, a 40-metre-high monument that once dominated the Dublin skyline before its removal in 1966. Today, its place is taken by the Spire of Dublin.
