The moment Ireland stepped toward independence, captured by one of our greatest artists.
The Irish Treaty Ratification 1921
Sir John Lavery's historic painting documents the Dáil vote that brought the Irish Free State into being. Created in 1921, this work captures the solemnity and weight of that pivotal gathering—politicians, lawyers, and dreamers voting on Ireland's future. This is your chance to bring it home.
About the Artist
Sir John Lavery (1856–1941) was born in Belfast and became one of Ireland's most celebrated portrait painters. He moved between London and Dublin, painting society figures and political leaders with equal skill. Lavery had deep roots in Irish identity, though his career spanned the British art establishment. He chose to document this moment because he understood its weight.
