A Windy Day
Sir John Lavery captured a solitary figure braced against the elements on a Tangier shoreline, frozen in a moment of struggle and solitude. Painted between 1907 and 1909, this work showcases Lavery's masterful handling of light and movement in challenging conditions. This is your chance to bring it home.
About the Artist
Sir John Lavery was born in Belfast in 1856 and became one of Ireland's most celebrated painters. He trained across Europe and found success as a society portrait painter, but never lost his love of landscape and light. Lavery's travels through North Africa and the Mediterranean produced some of his most dynamic work, blending impressionist technique with his distinctive Irish sensibility. His life spanned the transformation of Irish art itself.
