Harmony of Analogy in Broken Blues – James Ward Abstract Irish Art Print (1912)

Blues that don't quite settle. Forms that almost touch. A painting that understands what it means to be between two worlds.

Ward's 1912 composition weaves deep blues, cool greys and unexpected warmth across structured forms that feel both fragmented and whole. This is a work about finding coherence in discord — and for anyone who has ever felt caught between two worlds, it knows exactly what you mean.

James Ward was born in Belfast in 1851 and went on to become one of Ireland's most influential artists and educators. As headmaster of the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art, he taught and inspired a generation — among them Harry Clarke and Seán Keating, two of the most celebrated names in Irish art history. His murals in Dublin City Hall remain among the great works of Irish public art. Harmony of Analogy in Broken Blues was painted at the height of his powers, during a period of bold artistic experimentation that placed him at the forefront of Irish modernism.

This is not decoration. This is a piece of Irish cultural history — on your wall.
