Seascape — Roderic O'Conor
O'Conor painted the sea with the same thick, Post-Impressionist colour he'd developed in France. His best-known seascapes were made on the Breton coast around Le Pouldu in the late 1890s, where breaking waves and rocky shorelines became a defining subject — handled in bold, unmixed strokes rather than descriptive detail.
Roderic O'Conor (1860–1940) was born in Roscommon and became one of the few Irish painters fully embedded in French Post-Impressionism. His work hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland.
