Fastnet Rock earned the name "Ireland's Teardrop" honestly — it was the last piece of the country emigrant ships passed on the way to America, the final thing to disappear before there was only ocean. The current lighthouse dates to 1904, replacing an earlier one that couldn't withstand the Atlantic it was built to warn ships about.
