Henry Harrison (1867–1954) came from Balliol College, Oxford, to the side of Charles Stewart Parnell, served as his bodyguard and aide-de-camp after the split of 1890, and sat as MP for Mid Tipperary from 1890 to 1892. He won the Military Cross on the Western Front, and in 1931 published Parnell Vindicated, the book that set out to restore his chief’s name. The painting is in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland (NGI.1281).
