Ships and wherries on the Liffey at Sir John Rogerson's Quay, in a watercolour by James Malton, 1790s.
A brig stands under sail at the right edge of the sheet, wherries cross a pale, glassy river, and the roofs and masts of the quays fade into a peach-coloured haze. Malton drew Dublin's streets and waterfront for his Picturesque and Descriptive View of the City of Dublin, the twenty-five aquatints he published between 1792 and 1799. The sheet measures about 52.4 × 78.2 cm. This work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland.
