Tangier after dark, the old town lit by the moon — Sir John Lavery’s Night, Tangier.

Lavery (1856–1941) first went to Tangier in 1891 and kept going back for the rest of his working life, eventually keeping a house there. The flat roofs of the town, where people gathered in the cool of the evening, became one of his favourite night subjects. The painting is in the collection of the Ulster Museum, Belfast (BELUM.U5185).
