Hugh Lane founded what's now the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin and died aboard the Lusitania in 1915. His final codicil, bequeathing paintings to Dublin rather than London, was never properly witnessed — sparking a dispute over the "Lane Bequest" that dragged on for decades.
