A Riviera garden in spring, painted in the clear, high light of the Côte d’Azur — Sir John Lavery’s Spring, the Garden, Villa Sylvia, from 1921.

Villa Sylvia, on Cap Ferrat, was built as a recreation of an Italian palazzo, with a white colonnade above the sea, and Lavery painted it several times that year — the same season as The Little White Boats, Cap Ferrat. The painting is in the collection of the Ulster Museum, Belfast (BELUM.U623).
