A Riviera Afternoon, Frozen in Light
In the winter of 1929, Sir John Lavery set up his easel beside the tennis courts of the Hotel Beau Site, Cannes — where white-clad figures played beneath the shade of orange trees and bundled spectators watched the pale Riviera sun. Tennis, Hotel Beau Site, Cannes is a painting about warmth remembered: unhurried afternoons, elegant company, and the particular golden light of the South of France that Lavery chased every winter.
It belongs on a wall that deserves a story.
About Sir John Lavery (1856–1941)
One of Ireland's most celebrated masters, Sir John Lavery was portrait painter to royalty, an official war artist, and the great chronicler of Edwardian and interwar elegance. His wife Hazel's likeness graced Irish banknotes for over fifty years. His work hangs permanently in the National Gallery of Ireland, the Tate Britain, and the National Portrait Gallery, London. Owning a Lavery is owning a piece of Irish cultural history.
Museum-Quality — Not a Poster
Every print is produced on our Master's Edition archival paper — 250 gsm, matte uncoated, natural white — chosen specifically to honour Lavery's loose, sun-lit brushwork and cream-and-ivory palette. Pigment-based inks are rated to hold colour true for 75+ years, the same archival standard used by major galleries and fine art publishers worldwide. The paper is acid-free (pH 7+) and FSC-certified: built to last, responsibly made.

Choose Your Size — A Quick Guide
- 30x40 cm (12x16") — Perfect for a reading nook, bedside wall, or gallery cluster. Intimate and striking up close.
- 45x60 cm (18x24") — Our most popular size. Fills a wall beautifully as a standalone statement piece in any room.
- 60x80 cm (24x32") — Gallery scale. Commanding in a living room, hallway, or home office. This is the one that stops guests mid-conversation.
- 75x100 cm (30x40") — Maximum impact. For high ceilings, open-plan spaces, or collectors who want the full Lavery experience. (Unframed only, to allow for custom framing.)
Not sure? Our 45x60 cm is the sweet spot — bold enough to anchor a room, proportionate enough for most walls.
All sizes fit standard off-the-shelf frames — no custom framing costs, no measuring headaches.
